Longwave Studio has been in the old telephone exchange since 2015. Two live rooms, an edit suite and four people who have made more than fourteen hundred episodes between them. Some of the shows are ours. Most belong to someone else.

Freya Nolan takes the 06:40 crossing with Saoirse Hyde, who worked the island route for nineteen years, on the morning the service ran for the last time. Recorded on location with a two-person rig, then finished in Studio A.

How it was made
Field tape was captured on two lavalier mics and a handheld recorder, with a separate ambience track of the engine room and the quay. We cut the raw ninety minutes to thirty-four, laid a light score under the two longest passages, and mastered to -16 LUFS for stereo.
The location audio arrived with wind on one channel and a ferry tannoy on the other. Both are still in the episode, because they belong there. What we removed was everything that made them hard to listen to.
