Episode notes

About this episode

Idris Bell sits down with coastal geologist Dr Owen Gallagher to walk through six settlements that no longer appear on the map, and the arguments now being had about the seventh.

Hard Water is a six-part investigative series produced end to end at Longwave Studio: research calls, studio recording, archive clearance, sound design and distribution.

How it was made

Recorded in Studio A with two large-diaphragm condensers and a spill-free headphone mix, so the two voices could be edited independently. Archive recordings were restored, levelled and placed under the narration.

The sound design in this episode is deliberately thin. A series about erosion does not need a wall of music; it needs room for a sentence to land and then stop.

Series like this take about ten weeks from first call to first episode. We will tell you that before you book, not after.

Client Stories

"We turned up with a title and a rough idea.

Eight weeks later we had a show that sounded like it had been running for years"
